Why Good Friday? Is This The Day That Jesus Died?
Most Christians all over the world are commemorating today as the day that Jesus died on the cross.
However, there's an error somewhere. When the women went to anoint Jesus' body before sunrise on the first day of the week (Sunday), he was nowhere to be found.
So we establish that Jesus' resurrection occured before sunrise, on Sunday. That still leaves the question of why we commemorate his death on a Friday. Jesus did say that as Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights, so would he be in the heart of the earth. If that is the case, then how do we get Friday as his day of crucifixion?
It is impossible. There is something else to consider.
Genesis 1:5 states that the evening and the morning were the first day. Evening and morning. Has anyone ever noticed how the Jewish people commemorate the Sabbath beginning at sundown on Friday? This means that the accounting of days for Jesus' being buried, and thus his resurrection, does not start on Sunday at sunrise, but rather on Saturday at sundown, because that's when Sunday actually began...
So if we believe what Jesus said, and count backwards three evenings and mornings, then we arrive not at Friday, nor even at Thursday, but at Wednesday at sundown for when he was buried, because Wednesday at sundown actually begins Thursday.
Which means he was crucified in the middle of the week, on a Wednesday.
