I may have gone about this the wrong way when I first thought about this, when I posted my poll about where realtors are located who use traditional methods of obtaining business vs. the new paradigms that seem to be driving real estate...
So let me put it this way: For example, in the Northeast, where families tend to be multi-generational and have lived in the same locale, the overall population tends to be on average older and educated in the time bc (before computers), I don't know if the vast majority of consumers in this area are using the internet as the major source of information about real estate. Or on the flip side, I am not certain that the majority of brokerages in the Northeast are deriving over 40% of their business from the internet (whether it be through ActiveRain, Trulia, Zillow, Realtor.com, or any major brokerage websites).
I noticed, however, both here in the 'Rain, and on Trulia, Zillow, Realtor.com, etc. that many realtors are active and doing considerable business as a result of their on-line activities in the South, Southwest, and Western parts of the country. From lead generation to actual closings, it appears that these areas of the country have a solid grasp on the power of the internet when it comes to real estate.
Is it my perception that's awry, or is this the actual state of things?
More importantly, what do you think is the source of this dichotomy, if it does, in fact, exist?
