A Day At Fulton Park, Waterbury, CT

Lewis Fulton Memorial Park

The Lewis Fulton Memorial Park, which sits nestled between the Crownbrook, Upper Fulton Park and Overlook neighborhoods of Waterbury, is the largest of the city's major parks. Occupying nearly 70 acres, Fulton Park encompasses two large ponds, a babbling brook that runs between them, playground areas, scenic walkways, a poolhouse, basketball courts and a baseball field. Fulton Park is one of the most popular sites in the city for taking wedding photos on a clear sunny day. There is a 7-11 24 hour convenience store located across from the northern pond and a recently (within the last 3 years) opened pizzaria, Park Pizza, provides excellent pizza and other hot deli items for those famished by a walk in Fulton Park.

Along The Banks Of The Naugatuck River...

Along the Banks of the Naugatuck River -

Anyone familiar with Waterbury and its history knows that many of the old factories that powered Waterbury's dominance of the region were located near the Naugatuck River, which somewhat divides the city almost in half. Waterbury's more affluent neighborhoods (Bunker Hill, Town Plot, Robinwood, West Side and Country Club) all lie west of the Naugatuck River. Route 8 neatly runs parallel to the Naugatuck River through town on the same side, crossing it once in the South End. Most of the railroad tracks lay in shambles and piles of rubbish lie along the middle and northern stretches of the Naugatuck River by Thomaston Avenue. However, as the Naugatucl River flows through the center of Waterbury and approaches Naugatuck, a rather startling transformation takes place. Many of these photos of the Naugatuck River, taken at the end of winter, display the beauty of the river unmarred by Waterbury's industrial past.
