William's Places: Getting Rid of the Blue Laws in Naugatuck

Getting Rid of the Blue Laws in Naugatuck

I was reading the local newspaper this afternoon and I came across an article titled "Time for blue laws to fade?"

Blue laws, which restrict the sale and use of alcohol on certain days and in certain locations, have impeded economic activity in the borough. Plans to renovate an old post office for an upscale restaurant have been shelved due to an ordinance which prevents the serving of alcohol 1500 feet from a school or church. St. Francis Church and school is located across the street from the old post office.

It only makes sense to have the laws changed. Mayor Robert Mezzo and the Zoning Commission are planning to update those laws in order to pave the way for economic development to progress.
