Waterbury, CT's Relay For Life June 5-6, 2010
On June 5-6, from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m, students, businesses, and non-profit organizations from all over the Waterbury area participated in the annual Relay For Life fundraiser at Crosby High School's track field.
Participants in the Relay For Life walked along the track throughout the day, sang songs, and bought and sold goods in support of finding a cure for cancer. The American Cancer Society instituted a new fundraiser this year, along with their usual sale of luminaries, by selling torches that would be lit in memory of those who lost their lives to cancer. Both cancer victims and survivors are commemorated each year at the Relay for Life by luninaries, bags filled with sand and a candle which is lit before sunset, lined along either side of the track.
I was able to participate in the Relay For life last year, and I was glad to have participated in it this year. It truly is a worthwhile event to participate in. I was not able to stay long enough to see the lighting of the candless and torches (which hopefully wasn't ruined totally by the intermittent rain showers we received), but I thought it fitting to honor those among us who are dealing with this disease. Know that you are loved, and supported, and that the prayers of many are with you.
(p.s. - I messed up; I was thinking of Gail Robinson's husband, Bill, but somehow mixed up the last name when I was writing on the luminary for him. My sincerest apologies!)

Thanks for participating in such a great cause! I have participated in relay for life and it is such a moving event for all and a healing event for those who have lost a loved one.
Very nice. Thank you for that.
William this is the type of event that the who community can get behind, and shared by everyone regardless of age. Our Youth Group at Church has participated in the one in Meriden in the past. The kids have always had a great time doing it, as well as raising money for a worthy cause.
This is a great cause. Thanks for sharing. BTW, I just saw that you will be at Raincamp tomorrow. I look forward to meeting my fellow "part-timer" :-)
